By All Opposition Forces in Sweden
The Eritrean political opposition fronts, parties and movement's file and
rank in co-operation with civil society and the Eritrean Asssociation for
asylum seekers in Sweden have met in Stockholm, Sweden on 13th,
April and 22nd April 2004. The meetings have discussed issues of
democracy and human rights respect in Sweden and the vioaltions of these
rights by Eritrean residents supporting the dictatorial regime in Eritrea.
The participants agreed that the need to overcome these threats against
human rights and democracy should be faced by all Swedish national and
international laws. There was also a specific focus on the crimes and
terrors committed by the supporters of the PFDJ in Sweden against democratic
forces. On this issue, the participants agreed that the effective
application of the rule of law against the PFDJ hooligans in Sweden is
important to protect
democracy and human rights, and to promote this, the
meeting elected a committee following
this process.
The meeting also emphasized on building a common platform bringing
all the various entities of the opposition in one camp. On this issue, the
meeting asserted that unity in diversity can
be better served in a spirit of mutual understanding and tolerance;
our diversity should not be a source of confrontations but should be a
source of dialogue and building bridges of understanding between all the
entities of the opposition camp. The participants agreed on forming a
Transitional Co-ordinating Committee which will be instrument for the
promotion of dialogue between the diverse actors in the opposition camp for
democracy and change in Eritrea.
At the meeting held on 22nd April, 2004,
the participants agreed to celebrate the 13th Eritrea's
Independence Day, together in Stockholm.
The programme of celebrations, date and place will
be announced soon.
