Welcome All Inclusive National Dialogue

By Nair Fesseha (28/12/2004)

The Sanaa Alliance Summit meeting in Khartoum has been the opportunity for the Eritrean Opposition political Organizations’ leaders to meet and discuss their peoples suffering and come to a united idea that can lead them to work together to save our people from the evils of the tyrant.

The Summit of the Sanna Alliance ( Ethiopia, Sudan and Yemen ) in Khartoum will have a positive impact on the Eritrean Opposition by initiating political dialogue, ease mounting tensions between the opposition groups, it can learn us the mechanism of conflict resolution, it can provide a framework for agreeing on our country’s and peoples’ situation at this time. It can divert all of our efforts towards the salvation of our people.

Khartoum Summit conference of the Sanaa Allaince will be an example and be perceived as an invitation for All Eritrean opposition political organizations for further dialogue to elaborate and implement the necessary agendas at this time and the future for our country.

Khartoum summit meeting has contributed to the restarting of dialogue between the Eritrean opposition political organizations and has offered an opportunity for creating innovative approaches bridging the divide between  “ them” and “ us. “

Khartoum Summit has contributed to the process of dialogue where inclusivity and participation are assured that has been the major challenge of the Eritrean political leaders.

The demand of the Eritrean People is the unity of the Eritrean opposition Political organizations under one national umbrella. The world Community in general and the European Union in particular, appreciate inter-Eritrean dialogue to discuss and develop a plan for salvation of the Eritrean people and lay future plan based on broad national consensus.

I am convinced that the All Eritrean opposition political organizations must use all their efforts , unite their rank and file and create a new and significant momentum for promoting peace and democratization in Eritrea.

This time is not the  time for long discussions and “ wait and see” strategy but focus principally on two issues:

  1. buiding an alternative political authority in exile

  2. democratization process

The first issue of the national dialogue is how to establish the political alternative or the formation of a broad national authority alternative to the failed state in Eritrea. The political situation in Eritrea today is the same like that of West African states during the late 80th- no government institutions functioning  and everything destroyed. ( failed state)

The second issue is the process of democratization, in this process many issues at national and international will be formulated and implemented. The opposition must arrange the issues according their priorities and time.

Supporting the all-inclusive national dialogue as the best strategy, I welcome the initiative taken by the leaders of the Eritrean opposition political leaders in Khartoum these days,  and wish them happy new year with prosperity and health.

Thank you
