Stockholm’s
Demonstration

Yesterday, 24th
of Sept, 2004, from 11.00 –14.00 local time, a huge demonstration
organized by joint- co-operation of Eritrean Association of Asylum
Seekers in Sweden (AEASS), civic and political organizations was
conducted successfully in front of Libyan Consulate in Stockholm. A huge
number of asylum seekers and other Eritreans have participated. As it
was announced, the demonstration was held as part of the international
demonstrations which was decided to be held on 24th Sept 2004,
requesting the world community to pay attention the plight of the
Eritrean refugees in the world in general; and urging the Libyan
Authority to treat Eritrean Asylum seekers humanely.
The
demonstrators started arriving at the demonstration place from 11.00
O’clock local time. About 11.30 local time a huge number was standing in
front of the Libyan Consulate. The Rally was entertained by music
singing, ” We are The World ” in English language. The Demonstration
leader opened the meeting with welcome words. He stressed the objectives
of this demonstration in
Tigrinya,
Arabic and Swedish languages.
A litany of slogans crying for the rights of refugees and expressing the
abuses of human rights in Eritrea were read and repeated loudly by all
demonstrators in three languages. The Libyan Consulate personnel were
taking photos through windows from their office apartments.
The demonstration
posters were so fascinating and many by- passers were attracted to read
them.

” Save our youth Eritrea’s
Future!
Eritrea is no safe any more!
Deportation to Eritrea is equal to death sentence! ”
The rally was
well organized. The leaders of the rally managed the manifestation
according the schedule and program.
At 13.00 local
time, the appeal letter which was signed by the civic , political and
asylum seeker’s associations was read by Mr. Selahadin Abdella, chairman
of the Association of Eritrean Asylum Seekers in Sweden.

At 13:30 Mrs. Alem Solomun
an excutive member of the AEASS accompanied by two Swedish police men
submitted the appeal letter to the Libyan Consulate. The consulate
promised to forward it to the Libyan Government.
The demonstration was
ended at 14:00 local time by 2 minutes silence standing for the memory
of our martyrs who devoted their lives for the fundamental rights of the
Eritrean people which are today violated by a lawless dictator.
