URGENT APPEAL

 

Your Excellency,

 

Members of Eritrean Democratic Association (EDA) of North America present their good wishes to your Excellency and to the brotherly Libyan people.

 

Your Excellency,

Eritrean Democratic Association (EDA) North America chapter convened its first festival in the City of Seattle from June 25^th through June 27^th.  EDA is a non-profit public organization that advocates human right causes for all Eritreans abroad and in the country. 

 

The festival discussed the worsening condition of Eritrean people that is caused by the one man rule in our country.  The festival also discussed thoroughly the fleeing of Eritrean youth from their beloved country due to gross human rights violations, imprisonment, forced conscription, and torture.  Many have sought sanctuary in different countries in the world including a country they consider a sisterly country – Libya.

 

The participants have learned many of the youth have risked their lives in search for peace and freedom.  The participants also learned that hundreds of the refugees are detained in Libya and are reportedly to be deported to Eritrea against their will.

 

These innocent and defenseless refugees if sent home will face persecution, torture, and death.  The festival is making an urgent appeal to Your Excellency to intervene and stop the deportation process.

 

In conclusion, we call upon your Excellency to intervene and stop the deportation of the refugees and ensure their safety.
