Eritrean United Opposition Community Activities in Sweden
       By Co-ordinating Committee

 
The Eritrean United Opposition Community, comprising of 6 civic and 6 political organizations in Sweden has nailed up its seasonal activities.
1. Demonstrations and celebrations in Stockholm.
2. Submitting of Letters of appeal about the urgent case of Eritrean asylum seekers in Libya, Sudan and other countries
3. Advancing the unity process of the various opposition forces in Sweden for peace, democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Eritrea.
Demonstrations:
The community will organize two demonstrations in September 2004 in Stockholm.
                         One will be held on 18th September  reminding the world community that the violation of human rights is deteriorating. Political and conscience prisoners for many years are suffering under the dungeons of  the ruling party without no public trial.
                 
                        On 24th September a big rally will be held appealing the world community about the plight of Eritrean Refugees in Libya , in particular and the other Eritrean asylum seekers all over the world.
 
Celebrations:
 
The United Opposition Community in Stockholm will celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the liberation armed struggle together on 25th Sep , 2004 in Stockholm with various political and cultural activities commomerating the meaning of, ” Bahti Meskerem” in the Eritrean people’s struggle for independence and freedom. The anniversary will be remembered by speeches, political debates and cultural music and dance. All are welcome to particpate in this historical event.  Public announcements and other placards are ready and will be distributed.
 
Letters of petition:  
 
The opposition community has sent letters of appeal , expressing  their concern about the unsafe situation of the Eritrean asylum seekers, to the Libyan Government , Sudan Government , Swedish parliament and government, non –government authorities and international human rights organizations.
Advancing the unity process of the opposition camp at the local level :
The opposition community in Sweden has started year 2001. The union has worked together in different and common activities regarding peace, democracy and human rights in Eritrea. The union is now at the stage of organizing and planning sustainable and effective joint- work in all common works that promote national unity and reconciliation among Eritreans struggling for peace , democracy and human rights respect in Eritrea.
