Open Letter to President Bush of USA

By Nair Fesseha (Jan 21, 2005)

In his inaugural speech , President Bush promised to spread freedom in the world.  In his speech , at the Capitol Hill in Washington during the cermony taking the oath and  beginning on the new term of presidential period; he stressed the best hope for peace in the world is to allow freedom to expand over all the world.  He expressed how freedom in the USA is influenced by the freedom of other nations , he said that USA’s politic will remain to support the democratic movements and institutions in all the nations and ending the world of dictators. America shall not impose its kind of government on those who do not want it. Our aim is instead to support others to voice loudly their rights, achieve their own liberty and pave their own path. Liberty does not mean that people are not independent from each other. ”Tolerance and mutual respect and the struggle against racism are crucial”  stressed the president.

Dear president, I was higly appreciated by your speech delivered during the inauguration and would like to remind you that the Eritrean people have been deprived of its freedom and liberty. The Eritrean people are suffering under a tyranny who never believes in liberty and freedom of its citizens. The regime in Eritrea refused to introduce democracy in Eritrea.  There are no freedoms of conscience, expression of opinion, movement, assembly and organization. There is no rule of law and no constitution. No oppsition activity is allowed , no free press.  Eleven former government and ruling party members , 14 journalists, students, religious leaders, military conscripts and thousands civilians still suffer in the prisons of the regime without no charges.

On the other side,  there are also democratic movements and institutions that struggle for peace , democracy human rights respect and the rule of law in Eritrea. These movements have been struggling since the country acheived independence from Ethiopia in 1993. To day, the various movements for democracy and peace in Eritrea have built a united umbrella organization after so many years of negotiations. They formed an umbrella organization cosisting 16 political opposition organizations representing all the Eritrean people for peace , democracy , human rights respect and the rule of law.

Dear president,  I hope your promise to expand freedom in the world includes Eritrea, because Eritrea is one of the world suffering under tyranny, since USA’s politic still remain to support the democratic movements, I request your excellency to contact this united democratic Alliance of the Eritrean political Opposition organization recently established.  The program and organizational structure and leadership of this front will be publicized soon and will be sent to you for reference and information.

Mr. President, I humbly ask you to put , ”Erittrea” in your political agenda with view to finding the solution to the current crisis and support the democratic united opposition alliance to set the country on the path to democracy, political pluralism and sustainable development.

May God help us expand  freedom all over the world together!
