The ERAS has
paid a visit to the Eritrean deportees striking at the gates of UNHCR
Khartoum

The representatives of Eritrean Refugees
Association in Sudan have paid a visit to the UNHCR head quarters in
Khartoum to watch the situation of the Eritrean deportees from Libya
today 16th of June.
The Eritrean deportees who are known to
be the highjackers of the Libyan plane are in a bad situation yet
continuing their hunger strike until they get a reply to their pledged
human and legal right of resettlement, according to their words, our
sources said.
Although the representatives of the ERAS
and former Eritrean diplomat Mr. Andebrahan Stifanos tried to contact
the UNHCR officers, it was not possible because the whole staff was
under a closed meeting.
The Eritrean deportees had started their
hunger strike since last Saturday 11th of June; yet no
official reply is given to their demand. The strikers are refugees who
were supposed to be deported to Eritrea but forced the Libyan plane to
land in Khartoum by force in August 2004. Those who have orchestrated
the operation are still in jail.
Meanwhile, the visitors were chased by
personnel from the Eritrean Embassy, eye witnesses said.
