Reportage of the EDA Sponsored Festival in Seattle
Dear Nharnet Readers, The Nharnet Team is trying to give a much
summarized aspect of the festival to keep you up to date. We are sure
you are anxious to see if the festival was successful. We understand
that you want us to keep you informed with detail. We are more than
glad to do that. For now please allow us to get by a total picture
description and the detail of each activity, speech, solidarity messages
and other presentations will be given in the coming days.
As you might have seen it Sunday morning, the festival was successful
and beyond expectation in some aspects. The chairs were all taken and
the members of the preparatory committee had to add more constantly.
The hall was wide which accommodated all the presentations and
activities very well.
The friends of Eritrea guests had plenty to see and ask many questions
about the Eritrean culture. Some of them were taking pictures of the
activities non-stop. This is a festival that has open a gate that
exposes the dark face of PFDJ to the state of Washington, to the whole
of the USA through the wonderful congress man who attended and the one
who sent a delegation and message of support, and eventually to the
whole world.
The food was wonderful and plenty. The women who worked long and hard
to prepare the food so that our friends of Eritrea guests and every one
else can have the variety and delicacy to enjoy deserve special thanks
from Nharnet as they did from many speakers. What a dedicated
group!!!!
A local branch leader of Eritrean Popular Movement conveyed a message of
support.
One intelligent youth, who is not a member of ELF-RC, was heard saying
that we are making history. He said that we were brave and hard
working. He eloquently expressed his message of encouragement. He said
that he believes Eritrean Democratic Alliance, as an opposition will be
stronger by what this organization is doing. The Nharnet Team would
like to thank him for attending and his words of encouragement and his
willingness to be involved. To the thank you he replied that he did not
come for the organization but to voice for the suffering people of
Eritrea.
Another youngster, who is also a first time attendee of this activity
who came from another state, also gave encouraging message. He said
that he would consider working with EDA. He expressed that he enjoyed
the festival and was satisfied with what ELF-RC stands for. We are
singling out these kind words from our youth because it is the segment
of our population that missing from the opposition picture and they are
the ones who will have to handle the Eritrea of tomorrow.
A young girl asked the chairman about the need of change in thinking
mode of the opposition (will present the question later). She was
eloquent and to the point in her question. It was truly refreshing to
see so many youngsters attending and enjoying the festival.
The singers like Tewolde Bahta were giving excellent entertaining and
mobilizing insets in between their music which sends message to the
youth and the people in general. The veterans Asmelash and Ghere, both
veteran handicap heroes from the armed struggle, did a wonderful job of
conveying the different ethnic cultural songs. The new generation Wedi
Musie, Michael, and Khadir let the audience have a good time.
The women attendees really impressed our Eritrean friend guests. One of
the guest speakers, a mayor, noted the beauty and presentation of the
women. He said we need strong women in political positions to solve our
problems. Isn’t he right on the money?
Dear readers, we will try to present you with folders of pictures in the
near future. Sunday afternoon was time for a seminar of members to be
attended by the chairman and the members of RC who were in attendance.
Thanks for Reading,
The Nharnet Team
