Political Resolutions:
Second Regular Session of Central
Leadership
1. On Resolution of Contradictions:
The EDA encourages peaceful resolution of problems that arise among EDA
member organisations in particular and any opposition groups in general
through democratic dialogue.
2. Mode of struggle
a. Endorse all means of struggle
b. Foster coordination among organisations with armed wings.
c. Work to ensure that these military wings eventually merge to form one
army
3. On Talks With The Current Regime
With the objective of resolving the current political crisis in Eritrea
and to guarantee peaceful and democratic transfer of political power,
the EDA confirms its preparedness for talks with the PFDJ regime.
4. On the border issue between Eritrea and Ethiopia
The EDA defines its view and position relating the unresolved issue of
border demarcation between Eritrea and Ethiopia, thus:
a. The ruling by the Border Commission is unjust, because it gives away
chunks of basically Eritrean land and sections of our population to
Ethiopia.
b. In light of the Algiers Agreement, and seen in legal terms, the EDA
believes the ruling as final and binding, and one that has to be
implemented.
c. Problems that may arise during implementation should be resolved only
through peaceful means.
5. On Refugees
The EDA has dwelt on the issue of refugees and confirmed that because of
the reign of terror and oppression put in place by the regime, Eritreans
are fleeing persecution in increasing numbers and seeking refuge in
different parts of the world. Taking into consideration the problems
Eritrean refugees are facing, the EDA has endorsed programme of action
that would enhance the possibilities of safeguarding their human rights,
ensuring their safety and promoting their interests.
6. Eritrean National Army:
The EDA adopted a resolution whereby the current Eritrean Defence Forces
would make an integral part of the national army and play its role in
the defence of the country.
7. Relations with peoples and Governments of the Region
The EDA attaches importance to the creation of working relations with
neighbouring peoples and their governments on a clear basis of mutual
respect of independence of decision and in the interest of peace, common
interest and cooperation.
