7th
ELF-RC USA Congress
Part IV
In part three, I
shared with you how the public meeting on Saturday Night went. By now,
you have already seen the pictures that show the delegates and guests
having a great time in the party. In this 4th and final
part, I will share with you the decisions that were made and elections
that were held the second day of the congress.
The reason Nharnet has
decided to share the detail process of the congress is meant for our
readers to familiarize and understand the democratic process and level
of transparency of ELF-RC. That is what matters most for the future of
our country. It is not the name of the organization and certainly not
the promises that can be made in the vacuum. One who does not have
cannot give. An organization (with its leadership) which has not
adopted democratic transparent process in its own operation cannot offer
one to the country in the aftermath of PFDJ era. ELF-RC wants people
to join it based on its principles and its actual practices. It wants
to earn the trust and support of our people because of what it preaches
and practices.
Sunday the 19th
was bright sunny day. Despite the fact that people were at the party
until 2:00 a.m. and took them a while to get to their destinations,
delegates were at their meeting hall at 9:00 a.m. ready to finish the
rest of the congress.

The first order of
business was concluding a fund raising project; and discuss future means
and ways of fund raising to sustain the future more active special
projects as well as the normal activities of the organization. The
congress decided to increase the resources from members so that ELF-RC
can double its activities and continue to maintain its political
independence.

The women in Congress in their own Founding Session. |
It was then time for
the women in the congress to hold their founding congress and form a
founding leadership committee. This was seen as one of the big
successes of the congress. ELF-RC firmly believes true autonomous
women’s association is one of the guarantees to ensure oppression does
not flourish again in our country not only against women but the general
public as a whole. It goes with out saying that the association will
help move the ELF-RC forward and strengthen it.
The congress also
praised and encouraged the ELF-RC leadership to keep up the momentum
through which it is working on bilateral relations with other opposition
organizations as well as relations with neighboring countries based on
mutual respect. It also encouraged it to push ties with organizations
that have national political programs stronger even at a merger level
and work diligently to improve and strengthen EDA as an umbrella
organization. Delegates were proud of the work of our leadership and
reaffirmed that USA region stands behind it.
After some discussions
about some general and internal matters, the secretariat moved the
discussion to the process of electing future leadership of the two
regions (zobas) of the USA.
Nominations were
accepted. Individuals who had compelling reasons were given chance to
withdraw from the nomination. Ballots were passed out to the
delegates. The ballots are kept secret. Ballots that had any errors
were thrown out. A panel of three people tallied the results. The first
top 5 from each region are permanent members of the leadership and the
last 2 are alternates should there arise occasions that necessitate
replacement. Two women, one from each region (East and West) were
elected each one with the highest votes. The leadership of each region
then fills the offices by electing from within after the congress.
The process was
transparent and smooth. The congress then gave authority the USA
administration and the new leadership to select an experienced Auditor
for the USA region from all members including those who did not attend
the congress.
The new leadership
posed for the camera and promised to up-held the democratic and
transparent principles of ELF-RC and work diligently towards the
democratic goals and objectives of ELF-RC, which reflects the political
wish of our people.
Thanks for reading and
good bye until my next editorial
