ELF-RC Branches in Germany
Celebrate Independence Day
By
Nharnet Reporter
Branches of the ELF-RC in Germany colourfully marked on 27 May 2006 the
15th anniversary of Eritrean Independence in an event
organized by the First Branch in the Stuttgart area of southern Germany.
The celebration included speeches, poem readings and all-night dance and
entertainment with light plays and practical jokes, mainly about the
regime in Eritrea. The various programmes were skillfully moderated and
presented by Tibe Tekie, branch committee member from Munich.
Attended by the ELF-RC chairman, Woldeyesus Ammar, and the head of the
Organizational Office, Assefaw Berhe, the Independence Day ceremony was
opened by a welcome speech by Teklezghi Michael, chairman of the First
Branch, who thanked audience members for their attendance and spoke
about the sacrifices paid by our people to make independence happen.
Representatives of ELF-RC branches in Germany came from faraway urban
centers like Cologne/Bonne, Kassel, Frankfurt and other places.
The keynote speech was presented by the ELF-RC chairman who described
the occasion as “the most revered day in the life of every Eritrean”
that should have been celebrated in common with all Eritreans who are
now divided between the camp of the opposition and the camp of selfish
government sycophants. He hailed the big sacrifices made by the Eritrean
people in the struggle for self-determination and national liberation
conducted for half a century.
Woldeyesus Ammar dwelt in great length in explaining the situation
within his organization since the martyrdom of their late chairman,
Seyoum Ogbamichael. He affirmed that the ELF-RC, now preparing to hold
its 6th National Congress in July, is already in great shape
to play a decisive role for rapid change of the sad situation in Eritrea
working hand in glove with those that share its visions for a modern and
democratic state.
The ELF-RC chairman also described the latest EDA meeting as
“successful”, especially by citing its decision to hold a congress
within 2006. He said the congress shall review and decide on some
important issues in its agenda and called on serious Eritrean
intellectuals and writers to present their viewpoints on those issues.
According to him, some of the issues that need thinkers’ attention and
opinion in an open public debate in the media include the following:
1.
How the present EDA charter can be improved.
2.
How the EDA constitution/structure can be altered to make
alliance more effective.
3.
What criteria could be devised to establish proportional
representation in the central council of the EDA?
4.
What should EDA membership qualifications include?
In a question and answer session coordinated by Teclesenbet Teclai, the
chairman of the German ELF-RC Zone, Messrs. Woldeyesus Ammar and Assefaw
Berhe clarified issues related to EDA and their organization, including
the status of their repeated call for merger of organizations with
similar or related political programmes in order to provide clear
leadership to the alliance.
The all-night music and dance programme was successfully performed by
the Samson-Temesghen-Haile team of young musicians and singers, mainly
from the ‘old’ Tsibah of ELF spiced by the eternal presence of
Frankfurt’s ‘Enbaba’.
