Final Statement
Of the 2nd
Regular Meeting of
The ELF-RC Executive
Committee
28.11.2006
The Executive Committee of the ELF-RC held its second regular meeting
between 23 and 27 November 2006 in Khartoum. The meeting studied reports
from the various executive offices, regional representatives, and branch
administrative committee as well as from special study and assessment
committees.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed recent developments in the Horn,
including the warmed up relations between the Sudan and Eritrea; the
crises in Somalia and Darfur that intensify regional and international
tensions, and warned of the adverse consequences of the belligerent
attitude and involvement of the Eritrean regime in regional conflicts.
Regarding the situation inside Eritrea, the meeting noted with sadness
the ever worsening condition of our people because of the erroneous
policies of the oppressive authoritarian regime. The Executive Committee
underlined the fact that the doomed regime will not be saved by the
growing list of excuses it improvises to extort money from the deeply
impoverished populace. Likewise, the meeting demanded the regime to stop
the persecution and imprisonment of journalists, religious persons,
human rights activists and the youth of the country and to
unconditionally free all political prisoners and prisoners of
conscience.
On organizational matters, the meeting expressed satisfaction with the
tasks performed in explaining through writings, meetings and contacts
the outcome of the 6th National Congress of July 2006 to the
general public, to fraternal organizations, friendly countries, parties
and various individuals.
The meeting reviewed the existing institutions and administrative
guidelines and introduced important improvements that shall be
implemented as soon as the new directives reach all concerned bodies of
the organization.
Regarding the opposition camp, and taking into consideration the
dispersed situation of the organizations, the meeting decided on the
formation of dialogue committees consisting of Executive Committee and
Revolutionary Council members in several places so that unity talks
could be started as a matter of urgency. The ELF-RC reconfirms with
rigour and absolute determination its strong support for the merger of
organizations with similar political programmes and accepted a closely
coordinated work relationship in sound harmony and tolerance within the
umbrella of the Eritrean Democratic Alliance (EDA) with those
organizations that have quite different political programmes and views.
At the EDA level, the meeting reviewed the studies compiled by the
committees entrusted to draft documents for the EDA congress and a
subsequent general national conference, and observed that encouraging
recommendations and ideas have been put forward in order to introduce
improvements in the EDA charter and constitution.
The second Executive Committee meeting gave special attention to the
plight of Eritrean refugees and youth who are flooding to the
neighbouring countries and beyond, and facing fatal dangers while on
flight from oppression in Eritrea, and expressed its profound
disappointment with the failure of the international humanitarian
community in addressing the predicament of Eritrean refugees. The
meeting thus called on Eritrean organizations, civil associations and
human rights bodies to redouble their efforts to assist relieve the
suffering of Eritrean refugees wherever they may be. The ELF-RC
Executive Committee also reminded the neighbouring countries that do
very well understand the root causes of the refugee problem to grant
save haven to our compatriots and to never think of handing Eritreans
back to the killer regime that never respects civilized values and human
dignity.
Victory to our democratic struggle!
Downfall to the dictatorial regime!
Eternal memory to our martyrs!

ELF-RC Executive Committee,
