ELF-RC Office for Information and Culture

The Executive Committee of the ELF-RC successfully held its second regular meeting in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum between 23 and 27 November 2006.

After reviewing reports of the various executive offices as well as reports and recommendations from country representatives, regional administrations, branch committees, study committees and its newly formed assessment bodies, the meeting passed decisions and guidelines besides working out a detailed work-plan of each office for the coming 4-month implementation period. Restructuring of operational and administrative functions was one of the landmarks of this important meeting.

The Executive Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress made in expounding the outcome of the 6th Congress and the ongoing drive to implement Phase One of the programme for formation of an all-inclusive mass party within the coming 18 months.

The meeting also intensively evaluated the steadily worsening situation of the Eritrean people inside the homeland and expressed great concern about the unchecked flight of youth who are cornered by the evil actions of the oppressive PFDJ regime. The meeting expressed frustration with the failure of the international humanitarian community to address the plight of Eritrean refugees, who are mostly the youth of the country. It condemned the regime’s brutal acts of intimidation and unchecked maltreatment of the Erirtrean people and warned that the irresponsible involvements of the regime in the conflicts in the Horn of Africa could endanger Eritrean interests.

Regarding the situation of the Eritrean opposition camp, the Executive Committee reconfirmed ELF-RC’s feeling of urgency in forging unity of those organizations with similar political visions so that the days of the dictatorship could be shortened.

The final statement of the meeting shall be made public very soon
