Desertions Are Turning
PFDJ Army to an Empty

Reports by reliable sources from within
the dictatorial regime of Isayas Afeworki confirm that the imprisonments
and desertions are fast depleting the strength of the numerically ‘huge’
PFDJ army. For example, the following numbers deserted from the 13th
Army Division of regional operative unit 04 (Denkalia and Semhar) during
the month of September 2006:

438 soldiers
disappeared after going on official leave.
·
174 soldiers
disappeared by escaping from their teams.
All in all, dictator Isayas Afeworki’s
13th Army Division lost 612 soldiers in the month of
September alone. The rate of fast increasing desertions is no doubt
turning the forcefully conscripted army of PFDJ into an empty shell.
