On 30 September 2006, Branch No. 3 of
the ELF-RC in Germany organized a public meeting and all-night folkloric
dance in the city of Cologne which has so far been a stronghold for
‘loyal’ (read: misled) members of the dictatorial regime in Eritrea.
Many members of the opposition felt to
have scored a measured success by being able to see such a public
meeting take place in PDFJ ‘fortress’, Cologne, after a long absence.
(Supporters of the regime in Cologne earlier in the day distributed
flyers threatening action against anyone who dared attend the event.
They reportedly succeeded to stop middle-roaders from attending the
meeting.)
Addressed by the ELF-RC chairman,
Woldeyesus Ammar, and Vice-Chairman Tesfai Woldemichael (Degiga), the
public gathering was attended by members of the ELF-RC in the
Cologne/Bonn area as well as members of other opposition organizations
like the Eritrean Democratic Party (EDP) and the Eritrean National
Salvation Front (ENSF) residing in the German
State of Westphalia.
The two ELF-RC leadership members
presented exhaustive explanations on the current situation in
Eritrea,
with emphasis on the plight of Eritrean youth, latest developments in
the opposition camp, and the outcome of the 6th Congress of
the ELF-RC. The presentations laid focus on congress resolutions about
decentralization and party formation.
A live discussion on the issues raised
continued for another two hours before the stage was taken over by
musicians and singers who granted a non-stop entertainment to the public
till 6 am Sunday morning. |
