A 09/01 Memo and Contribution from San Diego

To commemorate the 45th anniversary of our armed struggle, Eritreans in San Diego—who oppose the dictatorial regime—recently met at the Malcolm X Public Library in San Diego. During the meeting those gathered condemned the atrocities that are being committed against our people, and renewed their vow to stand united against this regime until we see its demise. The war of liberation that started in September 1961 ended in May 1991and brought about the creation an “independent,” sovereign nation, which—as it stands today—is at war with its own people, in conflict with all its neighbors, and at odds with the international community.

Eritrea, under one man’s rule, became a North Korean-style military camp with deepening political crisis, economic catastrophe and social disharmony. Its people fought for thirty years and paid a tremendous price for a “freedom” that has only replaced colonial (Ethiopian) rule with something worse: a home-born, and home-grown terrorist regime whose modus operandi is rooted in fraud, intimidation, assault, battery and incarceration. This regime has turned the land into a nation of slaves with one master, elect of the devil leading its people to hell.

The meeting, which took place in San Diego on September 1st, calls on all Eritreans in the Diaspora to rise up against this dictatorial regime. Rise up just like you did against the “Dergue” and his predecessor. Join forces with your fellow compatriots in the opposition to save our children, who are bound to a catastrophic end of worthlessness and ignorance. Eritreans are on the verge of losing their honor, civility and well-known tradition of creativity, and sensibility. With constitutional guarantees to safeguard our lives, we in the Diaspora have the privilege to be able to think and speak freely, and we have ample opportunities and access to information. Because of the rights and privileges we enjoy as Eritreans of the Diaspora, we, ultimately, have a moral obligation to stand up for the rights of our people who are still in Eritrea.

Our meeting commended the heroism of the freedom marchers on the East Coast who are walking more than 250miles to demonstrate their disdain for the despotic regime that has a strangle hold on Eritrea right now. We also pay special tribute and convey heart felt gratitude to our European friends who have joined in on this peaceful demonstration. The San Diegan opposition members are contributing $500.00 (five hundred US dollars) to the marchers as a symbol of our solidarity and commitment to the cause. We wish you good luck in your future endeavors.

In closing, we call on all the leadership of the opposition organizations to urgently unite their forces and focus their efforts on the enemy of the people. We believe all opposition organizations—ideologically and/or politically—fall into less than five organizational categories, and the need for convergence is critical. The call of our people to unite should not fall on deaf ears. Time after time, our people are not only asking, they are demanding it!

Victory to the Eritrean People!

No dictator is Almighty (Kulu zike’a lo)!

It will soon fall!
