Between 29 and 30 May 2007, the ELF-RC branch at the Shegerab Refugee Camp in Eastern Sudan held a successful congress in the presence of Idris Ismail, member of the Revolutionary Council and head of offices in the Kassala State. Also attending was Woldesus Mebrahtu, member of administration in the Kassala office.

In a speech he delivered at opening the Shegerab Branch Congress, RC member Idris Ismail explained in great length the tragic situation inside Eritrea and the challenges facing the opposition camp at this moment. He   reminded congress participants of the heavy tasks awaiting them in the struggle for change and wished the congress a resounding success.

Deliberations at the congress focused on the past and future activities of their branch geared towards making the plan of establishing an all-inclusive political party a big success. Likewise, the congress regretted the split that occurred in the Eritrean Democratic Alliance (EDA) at its recent meeting without forgetting the commendable efforts made by EDA-1 to avert a division. The congress finally entered commitment to make the activities of the EDA-1 a shining success for the common good of the opposition camp.

The congress discussed the reports of the outgoing branch leadership and adopted a new work plan for the coming period. The Shegerab congress was concluded after it democratically elected a new branch committee entrusted with implementing the newly adopted action plan.
