Once again, Eritrea lost one of its patriotic sons who made history in a selfless life-long struggle, from childhood to the end, for the sake of the Eritrean people’s cause.

It is with shock, bitterness and deep sorrow that I report the death of our brother, comrade-in-struggle and leader Seyoum Ogbamichael, of a sudden heart failure this morning, Saturday 17 December 2005, while on an important mission to Addis Ababa. Details shall follow soon.

Notes About Fallen Hero of Our People’s Cause,

Seyoum Ogbamichael

We are so devastated by the sudden and extremely sad news of the untimely martyrdom of Seyoum Ogbamichael that we at Nharnet.com could hardly say what has to be said about him at this hour of shock. For the moment we let our readers know the following sketchy biographical notes about the life-time fighter, now Martyr, Seyoum Ogbamichael.

              Seyoum was one of the prominent student leaders of the early 1960s in Asmara during his high school years (1961-65).

              He left Asmara in March 1965 to join the ELF. He was soon appointed as political commissioner of the 5^th Division, a post which he did not hold for long because of his imprisonment together with Woldedawit Temesghen in August 1965 while organizing ELF members inside the Eritrean capital.

              Both Seyoum and Woldedawit languished in prison for 10 years before they were freed in February 1975 in an ELF operation that they helped design from inside the prison.

              Between 1975-77, Seyoum served as the general administrator of administrative unit No. 10 (Akele-Guzay). In 1977 he became head of the Administration of the School of Political Cadres. In that same year, he was elected as the Head of General Union of Eritrean Peasants, a post that has not been officially dissolved till his martyrdom.

              Since 1984, he became member of the RC (legislative body) and served as Head of International Relations between 1993 and 2002.

              In August 2002, he was elected as the Chairman of the ELF-RC to which he was again re-elected in June 2003 and held it till his martyrdom on 17 December 2005.

Nharnet.com would also wish readers to again have a quick perusal of the excerpts below from previous writings about Seyoum by his long-time friend and comrade-in-struggle, Woldesus Ammar, who expressed in his articles since August 2001 that Seyoum and Haile Deru’e were among the few great patriotic leaders of our times who would help Eritrea in the much needed reconciliation process between the old Jebha/Shaebia divide in its politics.

A Champion of Democracy Passed Away

Saturday 17, 2005 brought a sad news to members and supporters of E.L.F RC and the Eritrean people as a whole. A true champion of democracy, a strong voice for the voiceless, a true heroic Eritrean patriot who dedicated his life in a selfless fashion left us in a sudden death of apparent heart failure.

A reaction of a The Nharnet Team could probably sum up the sadness felt through out: “hzbi ertra idlena aykonen” meaning the Eritrean people are not lucky that they lost a fearless dedicated struggler for their freedom and right.

Another member of the organization said “entay zbelwo tekal hzbi eyu bejaka” roughly translated that what a bad luck does the Eritrean people have to lose such a dedicated and courageous champion of their liberty.

Nharnet.com is sure that the sentiment is similar through out the organization and most of the true democratic change seekers of our country and the world. The loss to his family, especially to his young children is devastating. However as the two examples of the reaction we saw above, the loss to the peace and freedom deprived Eritrean people, and democratic forces of the horn is equally paramount.

His courage, sincerity, speaking from his mind and heart, and standing up for what he believes is right are the qualitative trademarks that the organization, the opposition, and the Eritrean people will miss.

Nharnet is confident that the organization members from leadership to its supporters will continue the vision of peace, freedom, democracy and liberty of our courageous leader with greater determination and clarity.

አርትራ ሃገርና እነሆ ሎሚ እውን ሓደ ካብቶም ታሪኽ ዝሰርሑ፡ ንቃልሲ ህዘቢ አርትራ ካብ ዕሸልነቱ ኣትሒዞም ዝኾስኮሱ፡ ምሉእ ህይወቶም ንቓልሲ ዘወፈዩ፡ ሓንቲ መዓልቲ ንውልቀ ጥቕሞም ከይሓሰቡ ከርተት ዝበሉ አፍቀርታ ሓደ ኣሰዊኣን ኣጥፊኣን።

ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም ካብ ንኡስ ዕድሚኡ ኣትሒዙ ብህርኩት ኣገባብ ዝተቓለሰን ተቓለሰቲ ዘፍረየን፡ ብሰንኪ ኣብ ሃገሩ ዝነበሮ ፍቕርን ዘርኣዮ ተወፋይነትን ንዓሰርተ ዓመታት ዝኣክል ኣብ በት ማእሰረቲ ኢዮጵያ ዝተሳቐየ፡ ኣብ ታሪኽ ቃልሲ ህዘቢ አርትራ ዘይርሳዕ ምዕራፍ ዝሓዘ ነጹህ ዘጋ ነበረ።

ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም ካብ ማእሰርቲ በቲ ናይ 1975 ናይ ጀብሃ ስርሒታት ካብ ቤት ማእሰርቲ ድሕሪ ምውጽኡ፤ አብ ኩሉ ዝተዋህቦ መደባት ብትግሃት ዝተቓለሰን ታሪኽ ዝገደፈን ህርኩት ተቓላሳይ ነበረ።

ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም ንክፈልጥ ብዝገበሮ ጻዕርን ብዝውንኖ ዘየቋርጽ ናይ ምምዕባል ተውህቦን፤ በቲ መዘና ዘይብሉ ናይ ኩነታት ምምዛንን ምርዳእን፡ ምብራህን ምትንታንን ክእለታቱን ዓቕምታቱን፡ ከምኡውን ብዝደለቦ ናይ ምምራሕ ተመኩሮታትን፡ ናይ ተ.ሓ.ኤ ሰ.ባ, ኣቦ መንበር ንምዃን በቕዐ።

ኣብዚ ናይ ሓጺር ናይ ኣቦ መንበርነት እዋናት ዘርኣዮ ብቕዓታት ድማ፡ ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም፡ ሓላፍነት ስርዓትን ሕግን ዘኽብር ኣዝዩ ጻዕረኛ፡ ብጾቱ ዘኽብርን ዘፍቅርን፡ ኣዝዩ ትዕግስተኛን ሓሳባት ብጾቱ ብትዕግስቲ ዝሰምዕን፤ ናይ መራሒ ትሕዝቶ ዘማልአን ንጹህ አርትራዊ ምንባሩ እዩ።

ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም ኣብ አርትራን ህዝቢ አርትራን ዝነበሮ ፍቕሪ ኣዝዩ ዝዓዘዘ ኮይኑ፡ ኣብ ዝሃለወ ሃልዩ ብድፍረትን ብነፍሰምትእምማንን ዘንጸባርቖን መለለይኡን ኮይኑ ዝተረፈ እዩ።

ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም ሃገርና አርትራ፡ ዲሞክራሲ ክነግሰላ፡ ፍትሒ ክህሉ፡ ህዝባ ፍረ ቃልሱ ከስተማቕርን ህዱእን ሰላማውን ናብርኡ ከካይድ፡ አርትራውያን ነንሕድሕዶም ተጸዋዊሮምን ተኸባቢሮምን ሓንትን ድልድልትን ምዕብልትን አርትራ ክሃንጹ ንምግባር ንዘሎ ናይ ተ.ሓ.ኢ ሰ.ባ. ዕላማ ንምዕዋት ኣዝዩን ብወሳንነትን ዝተቓለሰ ተባዕ ተቓላሳይ ምንባሩ ክሳብ ካብ ውድቡ ወጻኢ ዘለዉ ዝፈልጥዎ ሓቂ ኢዩ።

ብጻይ ስዉእ ስዩም ነታ ቀዳመይቲ ምሕዝነትን ናይ ሎሚ ኪዳንን ኣብ ምምስራት ዓቢ እጃም ካብ ዘበርከቱ አሪትራውያን ምንባሩ ኩሉ ግዘየ ክዝከር ዝነብር ታሪኻዊ ሓቂ ኢዩ።

መስዋእቲ ሓውናን ብጻይናን ስዉእ ስዩም ዑቕባሚካአል፡ ብዓቢኡ ንክቡራት ደቁን ስድራበቱን ክሃሲ እንክሎ፡ ውድብ ተ.ሓ.ኤ ሰባ፤ ከምኡውን ሃገርና አርትራ ድማ ዓቢ መራሕን ወዲ ሃገርን ኣጥፊእና ኢና።

ንምሉእ ስድራበትን በተሰብን ብጻይና ስዉእ ስዩም ዑቕባሚካአል ጽንዓት ይሃብኩም ክንብል አንከሎና፡
