Over a period of one week, between June 26 and July 2, 2009, 99 Eritrean refugees have entered Northern

Ethiopia. The new arrivals, 30 of them soldiers and 69 other civilians have crossed into Ethiopia through the

border areas of Zalambesa, Rama, and Gerhu Sirnai.

Eritrean People’s Party sources further states that the civilian group comprises 16 women and 51 students.

The rise of forced migration in Eritrea is a constant reminder of the magnitude of the political repression and

poverty Eritreans are facing under the regime of Isayas Afeworki.
